Aalborg Municipality’s Climate Strategy 2012-2015
Prevention and adaptation
As an official Climate Municipality, Aalborg is committed to taking climate issues into account in the municipality's policies on energy, transport, procurement, waste, agriculture, etc.
Aalborg Municipality's Climate Strategy was adopted by the Aalborg City Council on December 12th 2011.
The vision
The climate strategy is based on a vision that Aalborg must be free of fossil fuels and CO₂ neutral by 2050. The strategy contains specific objectives and activities on how Aalborg can achieve this, for instance by reinforcing efforts on increasing the levels of more renewable energy in the energy supply and reducing the overall energy consumption.
The two parts of the Climate Strategy - prevention and adaptation
The first part of the strategy is about how Aalborg Municipality can prevent and reduce emissions of fossil fuels.
The first part of the strategy is about how Aalborg Municipality can prevent and reduce emissions of fossil fuels.
The second part of the strategy is about how – among other things - the city can adapt to rising sea levels and more extreme precipitation. How, for instance, can the large amounts of water be handled in the future, how can the risk of flooding can be reduced, and how can climate change affect urban development, nature conservation, etc..
