Purpose

The purpose of the Council on Integration is to consider the interests of ethnic minorities in Aalborg Municipality. The Council plans to do this by making sure that the municipality's integration efforts are effective and coherent, as well as being suited to promote ethnic equality.
It is the City Council’s responsibility to involve the Council of Integration when deemed necessary. However, the Council of Integration may also on its own initiative address issues that the Council sees a need to focus on.

Tasks

The Council of Integration performs different types of tasks:

• Advising governments and city councils on local efforts on integration
• Focusing on issues that the Council considers relevant
• Cooperating with other actors within the field of integration in the municipality
• The Council of Integration cannot treat individual cases.

Focus Areas

The Council of Integration is in the period 2010-2013, especially focusing on the topic:

• Desintegrating factors. Dialogue between Aalborg Municipality and citizens of different ethnic background than Danish.

In addition, the following themes, which all have the Council’s special interest, have been elected:

• Prevention and recommendations in relation to extremism
• Labor market integration
• Focus on all the positive stories about well-integrated citizens
• Refining the debate

The Council of Integration should be used as a platform for all citizens of Aalborg with an ethnic minority background.

The Council for Ethnic Minorities

All local integration councils must every four years, choose one member to the Board of the Council of Ethnic Minorities, established by the Danish Minister of the Interior.
The Board must every four years Elect 14 members to the Council for Ethnic Minorities, which advises the Minister on matters of integration.
Ayse Kosar from Aalborg Municipality’s Council on Integration was chosen as a member of REM for the period 2010-2013.
